Palchan is the elite reconnaissance unit of the Paratroopers Brigade (Tzanhanim, צנחנים) in the IDF. Palchan is an abbreviation for Plugat Handasa Kravit (פלוגת הנדסה קרבית), meaning "Combat Engineering Platoon." Its roles and responsibilities include specialized combat engineering (demolitions, explosives, and various forms of sabotage), counter-terrorism and reconnaissance, mine clearance and explosives disposal, as well as bridge-building and rapid construction.
